The Queen's Jubilee? A few observations..

According to Jewish tradition
God commanded the children of Israel to celebrate a year of jubilee for fifty years. This was to a be a time of renewal when the people could be made free of the obligations they had contracted for themselves and for their land. As long as jubilee was practised, families in Israel did no have to worry about chronic poverty, because they all got a piece of the land...........each family was given a piece of the land as a hereditary possession. Since the vast majority of the people who lived prior to the Industrial Revolution were landless, the provision that every family would have their own land to use for their own needs was a remarkably egalitarian and empowering one. It meant there was no serf class and no noble class.1)

I'm not religious but it sounds good to me....

The Queen is believed to be worth over £200 million - she is patron of many charities but apparently provides nothing in the way of a financial contribution.  She has led a charmed life - and as far as we know has behaved impeccably and carried out her 'duties' in an exemplary fashion, whilst reaping the rewards of the best that money can buy.  In these days of austerity a royal gesture is made......... giving up a boat....
.
Apparently, apart from her 'official' fortune, consisting of the things that she does not personally own, the Coronation Crown I would imagine comes under that heading; the Queen struggles to survive from the income of her privately owned properties including the Balmoral Estate in Scotland, which apart from the castle consists of 50,000 acres of woodlands, moors and lochs; Sandringham Estate, with its numerous houses, 60 acres of gardens and 20,000 acres of forest. She also has private collections of art and furniture, as well as jewels and horses, including a string of race-horses. The rest of her fortune derives from investments, stocks and bonds.

According to author, Jon King,

’ …since the early 1970’s, MI6 acting on behalf of the Royal Establishment and its Neo-Colonial cartel of Africa-based corporations and NGO’s has been secretly financing and equipping teams of mercenaries to carry out its dirty work in Angola………….at least in part to ensure the Royal Family’s vested financial interests there.’

Had the Queen's children and their 'hanger's on' been born in different circumstances they would have been ostracised and condemned for much of their behaviour.  Cameron would be cutting their benefits, or sending the parents to prison. Then why do so many of us peasants, still doff our hat and revere them?  A foreign family, unelected, and just by the chance-of-birth, find themselves 'doing very nicely thank you' and accountable to no-one it seems.

In all other walks of life the parents are seen to be responsible for their maladjusted children but somehow the royals seem oblivious of this factor, possibly the repercussions of the 'sins of the fathers'. Consequently we find one of these children, Charles, spending his entire life searching for a relationship to fulfil the role which his emotionally disengaged parent(s) could not provide.

Let us hope that after Charles' deplorable example of fidelity that his own children do not 'act out' in the same way and it would be good to feel that the Queen has discovered with age and developing insight, as many of us do, that she is a more sympathetic and compassionate grandmother than mother....
