I was at Fort Meade in Maryland today covering the latest motion hearing in the court martial of Pfc. Bradley Manning, the soldier accused of releasing classified information to WikiLeaks. I left the proceedings before they were finished for the day to appear on RT America and discuss what happened today in the proceedings with host Abby Martin.
During the segment, I talk about the struggle Manning’s defense has had in trying to get evidence from the government. I say a bit about the CCR petition to get access to court filings of which I am a plaintiff (along with Glenn Greenwald, Jeremy Scahill, Amy Goodman of Democracy Now!, The Nation, Chase Madar, Julian Assange and WikiLeaks). And then we get into some larger issues like whether Manning has impacted national security and how Americans respond to whistleblowing.
A comprehensive post on today’s proceedings that particularly deals with exchanges between the judge and military prosecutors will be posted here shortly. In the meantime, enjoy this segment.
Here’s a live blog that has updates on some of what happened in the courtroom at Fort Meade today.
